1. Agreement to Terms

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of Recursity (the "Service"), including our websites, web application, and related services. By creating an account, accessing, or using the Service, you agree to these Terms and to our policies referenced herein, including our Privacy Policy, Acceptable Use Policy (AUP), Cookie Policy, and Refund & Cancellation Policy.

If you are using the Service on behalf of a university, lab, or other organization, you represent that you have authority to bind that organization to these Terms. If you do not have that authority, you may not use the Service on that organization’s behalf.

2. Who We Are

In these Terms, "Recursity," "we," "us," or "our" refers to the operator(s) of the Recursity Service. Recursity may update these Terms to reflect business registration and formal entity details when applicable.

Until formal entity details are published, the Service is still operated and supported by Recursity. Your use of the Service remains governed by these Terms regardless of the registration status of the operating entity.

3. Eligibility and Regional Restrictions

• Minimum age: You must be at least 16 years old to use the Service, or the greater age required by your local law.
• Sanctions: You may not use the Service if you are located in or ordinarily resident in a region subject to comprehensive U.S. sanctions (OFAC) or if you are a prohibited or restricted party. This includes, without limitation, Iran, North Korea, Syria, Cuba, and the Crimea region.
• Excluded categories: Recursity is not offered for government or intelligence use, surveillance, or regulated medical/legal practice where outputs could be relied upon as professional advice.

You are responsible for ensuring that your use of the Service is lawful in your jurisdiction. We may restrict or block access where required by law, where we believe it is necessary for compliance, or where we believe continued access poses security or abuse risk.

4. Description of the Service

Recursity is an AI-powered academic document workspace that combines writing, citation management, literature review workflows, AI-assisted drafting, source-aware document intelligence, and multi-document reasoning. The Service may include free and paid features.

The Service may evolve over time. We may add or remove features, change how features work, and introduce plan-based limits. We do not guarantee that any particular feature will always be available.

5. Accounts and Security

• You must provide accurate information and keep it up to date.
• You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your credentials.
• You must promptly notify us of suspected unauthorized access.
• You are responsible for activity occurring under your account.

You agree not to share accounts or credentials unless a plan explicitly allows it. Security-related controls (e.g., rate limits, session checks, device validation) may be applied to protect you and the Service. We may suspend sessions or require re-authentication if we detect suspicious activity.

6. Plans, Billing, and Payments

Recursity may offer free and paid plans. Paid subscriptions are typically billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis. You can cancel subscriptions at any time through account settings; access continues through the end of the current billing period.

Payments are processed by Lemon Squeezy, which handles payments, invoicing, VAT, refunds, and chargebacks. Recursity does not store full payment card numbers.

Refund windows: 7 days for monthly plans; 14 days for annual and lifetime purchases (see Refund & Cancellation Policy for full details).

You authorize Lemon Squeezy to charge your selected payment method for recurring subscriptions until you cancel. Pricing and plan features may change over time. If we make a change that materially affects your plan, we will provide reasonable notice through the Service or by email.

7. Acceptable Use

You agree to comply with the Acceptable Use Policy. Prohibited conduct includes (without limitation) contract cheating, selling academic work, ghostwriting for grades, uploading pirated materials, malware, unauthorized access attempts, surveillance, mass scraping, and attempts to bypass plan limits.

If we reasonably believe you have violated the AUP or these Terms, we may take action including warnings, feature restrictions, throttling, suspension, termination, content removal, or other measures to protect the Service and other users.

8. Your Content and Licenses

You retain ownership of the documents and content you create or upload ("User Content"). To operate the Service, you grant Recursity a limited license to host, store, process, and transmit your User Content solely to provide the Service, run requested AI features, maintain security, provide support you request, and comply with legal obligations.

We do not use your private documents to train AI models. Human review of content does not occur unless needed for abuse investigation, legal compliance, or a support request.

You are responsible for ensuring you have the rights to upload any content (including PDFs, articles, datasets, images, and other materials). If you upload content that infringes intellectual property or violates the law, you may be subject to account action under the AUP and these Terms.

9. AI Disclaimers

AI output may be inaccurate and is not peer-reviewed. You are responsible for verifying outputs before relying on them. Recursity does not provide medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.

AI features may generate content that is incomplete, incorrect, or misleading, including citations or references that must be verified. You should treat AI outputs as drafting assistance and not as authoritative truth.

10. Intellectual Property

The Service and its underlying technology are owned by Recursity and protected by applicable intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, lease, or reverse engineer the Service except as permitted by law.

11. Termination

We may suspend or terminate access for violations of these Terms or the AUP, fraud, excessive chargebacks, or where required to comply with law.

Termination may include restricting access to your account, disabling features, or removing access to paid benefits. Where feasible, we may provide notice and an opportunity to cure violations, but we may act immediately to prevent harm or comply with law.

12. Disclaimers and Limitation of Liability

The Service is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind to the maximum extent permitted by law.

This means that we do not promise that the Service will always be uninterrupted, error-free, secure, or available at any particular time. We do not warrant that any outputs, including AI-generated outputs, will be accurate, complete, or fit for a particular purpose.

You understand that your use of the Service involves risks inherent to internet-based services, including potential service outages, loss of connectivity, or third-party provider issues. You are responsible for maintaining appropriate backups of your work outside the Service if you require redundancy beyond what we provide.

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Recursity will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages. Our total liability for claims arising out of or relating to the Service will not exceed the amount you paid to use the Service in the three months before the event giving rise to the claim (or USD $50 if you have not paid).

13. Dispute Resolution (Arbitration) and Class Action Waiver

Informal resolution: Before filing a claim, you agree to contact us at legal@recursity.com and attempt to resolve the dispute informally.

Informal resolution helps both sides address misunderstandings and often resolves issues faster than formal proceedings. In your message, include a description of the dispute, the account email, and any relevant transaction identifiers or supporting details.

Binding arbitration: If a dispute is not resolved within 30 days, it will be resolved by binding arbitration administered by a mutually agreed provider, except that either party may bring an individual claim in small-claims court where applicable.

Arbitration is a private dispute resolution process that replaces the right to have a dispute decided by a judge or jury in court. The arbitrator has the authority to award the same types of relief a court could award, subject to this clause and applicable law.

Class action waiver: You agree to resolve disputes on an individual basis and waive any right to participate in a class, collective, representative, or private attorney general action.

This waiver applies to any attempt to bring, join, or participate in a class proceeding related to the Service. If a court or arbitrator determines that this waiver is unenforceable for a particular claim, then the class portion of that claim must proceed in court (not arbitration), to the extent required by law.

Opt-out: You may opt out of arbitration and the class action waiver by emailing legal@recursity.com within 30 days of first accepting these Terms.

If you opt out, disputes will be resolved in court as described by applicable law. Opting out does not affect any other provisions of these Terms.

14. Changes to Terms

We may modify these Terms from time to time. If changes are material, we will provide notice via email or in the Service.

Your continued use of the Service after the effective date of updated Terms indicates acceptance of the updated Terms. If you do not agree to updated Terms, you must stop using the Service.
